The Black Keys - Tighten Up

I've never really gotten into The Black Keys but this very well may be my new favorite music video ever.

I've Been Feeling a Little Bad About Not Finishing...

So at the end of last year I started what was to be my first favorite 25 albums of the year list but unfortunately due to illness and a crazy schedule over winter break I failed to finish it. By the time I got time to actually work on the list I felt it was to late for it to be relevant. Even so the fact that I left it undone has been nagging at me...

So you know what? I'm gonna say this is my blog and I'm gonna post whatever I damn well please, and what I please is to post my five favorite albums of 2009.

So without further ado My Lamb Sells Condos presents the grand finally of the "2009 My Lamb Sells Condos Most Favoritest Albums of the Year List"

#5: Sunset Rubdown - Dragonslayer

#4: Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

#3: Antony & the Johnsons - The Crying Light

#2: Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca

#1: Brand New - Daisy
In all honesty choosing Daisy as number one is largely due to my serious fanboyness towards this band, but whether it is due to my being a huge fan or not, no album grabbed me like Daisy did in 2009 and for that reason it sits at number one.

Alright, it's nice to have that out of the way. Now we can move on to focusing on this year and preparing for the Second Annual My Lamb Sells Condos Most Favoritest Albums of the Year List. :)

This Made Me Smile:

Whoa someone actually referenced my blog!

Godspeed You! Black Emperor is Back!

These guys sound like the silver lining around clouds of smoke billowing up from charred earth as everything burns for as far as the eye can see in a post apocalyptic nightmare... Yeah, they're that good, and after going on hiatus in 2003 to pursue other projects GY!BE have reunited! This is the best thing to happen in post-rock in ages.

Now I'm just hoping they can can get on to making an album real soon.

Amazing

Seriously.WatchThis.

I Have No Words for This...

Anyone Who Doesn't Understand This Should Be Ashamed of Themselves

I came across a bunch of these here. It's really awesome and an all around brilliant idea.

Admiral Fallow - Old Balloons

Lately I've been really into the Scottish indie rock scene. With bands like We Were Promised Jetpacks, The Twilight Sad, and Frightened Rabbit churning out some of the most gorgeous music around right now, Scotland is a hotbed of musical talent, and if this track is any indication Admiral Fallow will be yet another fantastic musical export from the land of bagpipes, William Wallace, and Groundskeeper Willie.

Totally Nebular - Captain Benson

Just came across these guys and I'm pretty sure they're the bastard child of Cloud Cult, Los Campesinos! and Animal Collective (yeah I know AnCo has been overused as a reference point as of late, but they work perfectly in this analogy so I'm gonna use them anyway). They play a brand of spastic indie pop that isn't overly cutesy and manages to avoid feeling either pretentious or contrived.

Check out their last.fm here and/or their myspace here.

Plus the band is giving away their fantastic album Boat Boat for free (the mediafire DL link is on their last.fm page) so go grab that as well.

This Makes Me So Proud To Be Part Japanese

Only the land of my great grandparents (from my mother's side) could every come up with this.

Nice

Recently found this photo by a fellow named Richard Bellingham. I know nothing about the guy but I find this picture to be quite great so I thought I'd share it on here.

Back & Givin' Strega Some Love

Okay, I'm back from break, and thankfully with a foot that isn't broken (although still somewhat sore). Anyways, I have a presentation to prepare for so I'mma get on that immanently, but for whatever reason something triggered my memory of how fantastic the Strega Nona picture books were.

(I'm guessing it's a product of what I had for dinner...)

Anyways, just to clarify the overall point of tonight's post: Spring Break is over, my foot is not broken, and eating spaghetti can cause me to reminisce on my love for the adventures of Strega Nona and Big Anthony.

I mean how can you not fondly remember this sexy beast?

Spring Break

Being the party animal that I am I decided to go somewhere tropical for spring break, somewhere with white sandy beaches... Yeah, so in other words I'm still home here in Hawaii. Personally though when you live in a place like Oahu you might as well enjoy what you got right?
Unfortunately I'm pretty sure I broke something in my foot yesterday so thats gonna be hampering the extent of what I can do over the few days that my break consists of but oh wells. I was planning on taking it pretty easy over the break anyways so I guess you could say this foot thing makes a pretty good excuse for relaxing for the remainder of the week, but we shall see, I'mma get an x-ray and hopefully it's not as bad as it feels.
Anyways, other than that the breaks been fun. I wingmaned for a friend of mine last night for a first/group date he went on which usually would have sucked (those situations are always kinda awkward) but we ended up seeing The Hurt Locker which I was pleasantly surprised lived up to all the accolades its amassed recently.
Alright well, this is probably gonna be my last post for the next few days, but I should be back in full force once school starts up again and I have something to procrastinate from.

Lazy Post

Not feeling to well at the moment but it has been a while since I lasted posted so here's a bit of filler for now.

As a side note, this is awesome.

Arsenal 5-0 Porto

It's been a pretty fantastic last few days in the world of football. Honestly I was pretty worried about todays match against Porto without Fabregas, but man did the Gunners put on a show without him.

Monday, March 8, 2010

Arsenal 3-1 Burnley (yeah I know I'm a bit late on writing about this)

Admittedly beating Burnley is nothing special, but the fact that they've move into being even on points with Chelsea is pretty fantastic.

Stuff That Doesn't Remotely Suck: Waltz With Bashir

Watch This

Dark, beautiful, and deeply disturbing. This film is essential viewing.

A's are Far More Fulfilling When You Do as Little Work as Possible to Earn Them

Don't take pride in hard work, take pride in the ability to achieve excellent results through the simplest means necessary.

Your welcome.

Feel free to quote me.

Fang Island - Daisy

My God, there are no words fully capable of describing how stupid grin inducingly awesome this video is.

For the Pain

How was this scene not in any of the movies?

And This is When I Turn the Car Around

(*I didn't take this picture but who ever did is beyond awesome)

Finished With Midterms

YES! Midterms are done. I still have a paper to turn in on Monday but it's almost finished, and since I piss golden A's in that class I'm pretty relaxed at the moment about it. Anyways, the point is that after a hectic week it's nice to be able to not give a damn for a bit.

Oren Lavie - Her Morning Elegance

Music wise not bad, pretty much a straightforward Nick Drake rip-off, but it is quite pleasant.

The video though... Wow, I have no idea how I could have gone this long without coming across this short film (I mean its got like eleven million something views on youtube). Absolutely stunning.

Portraits of Past

One of the most important, and far to often badly imitated, bands of the last two decades.

Every single bitchy little "scene" kid needs to have their asses kicked while being forced to watch this.

Bullet Dodged

Well Hawaii survived.

Our thoughts most certainly go out to the people in Chile though.

Tsunami

Sirens and warnings are going off for an impending tsunami to be hitting the coast of my home state of Hawaii in roughly an hour. Thankfully I'm lucky enough to live in a safe zone, but for all those who are not I hope and pray they and their homes remain safe through all of this.

Xiu Xiu - Gray Death

This is the first track off of newest Xiu Xiu album Dear God, I Hate Myself, which happens to be one of my early
contenders to be the best albums of 2010 (not to mention a shoe in to win the peppiest album title of 2010). It's a
fantastic album opener and the video matches the songs weird epicness perfectly.

Liars - Scissor

Really good stuff from Liars. I kinda wish the end wasn't as funny though, it doesn't really match the overall feel of
the video/song.

Stuff That Doesn't Remotely Suck: Blankets

Craig Thompson, an author and cartoonist (he also made the incredible cover art to Menomena's Friend or Foe), is something of a stylistic genius. The premise of his graphic novel Blankets is pretty simple: confused youth finds his way to adulthood through the act of sleeping next to other people. As the protagonist ages this act takes on different meanings and changes his general perspective of the world around him while altering or expanding his internalized sense of self. The story itself is nothing revolutionary, never really moving into a realm that feels unexplored. What takes Blankets beyond being a simple coming of age book though is the way in which Thompson presents the tale he is weaving. Blankets is a text that uses the medium of the graphic novel to it's fullest extent. Thompson does not simply tell a story he makes it into a living thing that crawls off the page through your corneas and embeds itself in the back of your head. He employs a simplistic style of imagery that somehow manages to create a minimalist yet emotionally dense pallet upon which his story is built and told through.

A Softer World

A Softer World is a comic series founded on the principle that the darker the comedy the more awesome it is. They sell their work in a physical book format, but they also have their entire collection posted online here to read for free. It's awesome, albeit sometimes disturbing, stuff. Check it out.

Hells Yes They Are!

Been Thinking About Shaving...
But then I see this and I remember why I'm avoiding the razor at all costs.

Wow

It's been a bit longer than I expected since my last post but this had to be posted:

Simply Mind Blowing.
